Democratic Heritage

Visio partners up with six other European organisations to develop methods for supporting development of democratic values of adult migrant learners.

Locally we work together with our educational partner association, Turku Women’s Centre.

In our project, “Democratic Heritage – Memorials and heritage museums engaging migrants in developing resilient democracies”(DH) seven partners working with cultural heritage such as memorial sites, museums, NGOs, governmental institutions, and cultural centers have gathered to develop a cross-European forum where we will share and evaluate our best practices in adult migrant learning of common values, civil and democratic competencies: experiences and methods in working with newcomers, refugees and migrants. Using the European Councils democratic competencies together with the expertise from our institutions current learning programs, DH wishes to share and develop best practices on how institutions can further develop their innovative participatory methodologies and activities minted on newcomers, refugees and migrant populations in differing European contexts.

The project includes workshops on best practices across borders, data gathering as well as evaluation of innovative methods and practices. The evaluation will be conducted based on surveys and questionnaires developed by the project group and will provide new and useful knowledge which will further advance the knowledge of democratic learning for migrants, refugees and newcomers.
